FutureScope – Finalists Announced for the 2nd International Short Film Festival

The finalists have been announced for the second edition of the FutureScope – International Short Film Festival, organized this year by İstanbul Gelişim University in collaboration with the Public Relations and Promotion Directorate and the Faculty of Fine Arts. Bringing together the transformative power of cinema with the innovative vision of young people, the festival once again attracted great interest this year. Held under the theme “FutureScope,” all films in the festival were evaluated within the framework of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The finalists selected in the fiction, documentary, animation, and high school categories will meet the audience at the gala and award ceremony to be held on 5–6 December 2025.

İstanbul Gelisim University Sports Club athlete Kübra Kocakuş won the gold medal in the women’s Muay Thai 60 kg final at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, defeating her opponent. Throughout the tournament, Kocakuş impressed with her competitive spirit, high performance, and consistent gameplay, and she delivered a determined performance in the final to secure the top spot on the podium.

Students and academicians from Istanbul Gelisim University Vocational School’s Front-End Software Development Program visited Istanbul Gelisim University TEKMER, gaining the opportunity to closely examine current processes in software, technology, and entrepreneurship. The visit served as a productive meeting that will guide future projects for both students and academics.

The Coordination Meeting of the Turkish University Sports Federation, held in Antalya, brought together key stakeholders who support the development of university sports. Istanbul Gelisim University was represented at the meeting by Prof. Ali Kızılet, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, and Kaan Oğulcan Hanbaba, Sports Coordinator of the Department of Health, Culture and Sports.

A collaboration protocol aimed at supporting sectoral development through education was signed between Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) and Balparmak. The signing ceremony, hosted by the Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Gastronomy, was attended by IGU Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin, IGU Secretary-General Assoc. Prof. Serdar Egeli, Head of the Department of Gastronomy Prof. Aslı Albayrak, department academics, and Balparmak executives. During the meeting, in addition to the signed protocol, discussions were held on external stakeholder relations and potential collaborative projects to be conducted jointly with the Department of Gastronomy.

As part of the Cultural and Art Events organized by Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Art and Design Application and Research Center (SATMER), the exhibition titled “From Past to Present: Firmans and Mystical Projections” by Prof. Erol Kılıç, faculty member at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University, Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, was opened to art enthusiasts.

The recent rise in air pollution has become one of the most serious environmental threats affecting people’s quality of life and health worldwide. According to experts, this issue is no longer merely an environmental problem but a global public health crisis. Asst. Prof. Nurten Elkin, Lecturer at Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Health Sciences and Public Health Specialist, emphasized the significance of the issue, stating: “Air pollution is one of the biggest obstacles to protecting health and preventing disease. The quality of the air we breathe directly determines both our lifespan and quality of life.”

Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our Republic, was commemorated at İstanbul Gelisim University (IGU) on the 87th anniversary of his passing with ceremonies organized by the university. The commemoration program began with a ceremony held at the Rectorate building. At 09:05, university executives, academic and administrative staff, and students observed a moment of silence for Atatürk, followed by the national anthem. Following the ceremony, an event titled “Who Was Atatürk?” was held at the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Conference Hall. Aimed at helping students better understand Atatürk’s personality, thoughts, and accomplishments, the event highlighted various aspects of his leadership, foresight, patriotism, and modernization vision through different examples.

Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Canakcıoglu, Head of the Department of E-Commerce and Management at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Istanbul Gelisim University, received the “Best Paper Award” at an international conference held in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

With the contribution of Research Assistant Cengizhan Güler from Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Department of International Trade and Finance (English), an important cooperation protocol has been signed between Istanbul Gelisim University and the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Industry and Technology. Through this protocol, comprehensive and detailed data within the scope of the Entrepreneur Information System (GBS) have been made available for academic research. As a result, IGU academics have gained access to extensive economic and sectoral data on companies operating in Türkiye.
