
International conferences will be held on May 7-8, 2026, in Bali Denpasar, organized in collaboration between Istanbul Gelisim University and Indonesia's Nusa Putra University, and hosted by Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha. Among the opening speakers at the conferences will be Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences Dean Prof. Kenan Aydın. The events, to be held under the Bali Conference Series, aim to bring together the academic world by focusing on themes of sustainable development, digital transformation, innovative approaches in education, and the green economy.
Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) Radio, Television, and Cinema Department senior student Orhan Kerem Kartal has been awarded production support provided by the T.R. Ministry of Culture and Tourism's General Directorate of Cinema. Kartal's short film project titled "Dostlar Sağolsun" was among the productions supported under the Ministry's support program. The fact that the work, developed as a graduation project, was deemed worthy of Ministry support was regarded as a significant achievement by departmental faculty.
The photography exhibition themed “In the Paw Prints,” organized as part of Istanbul Gelisim University's Research Center for Art and Design (SATMER) arts events, opened its doors with content that brings art and social awareness together. The exhibition, comprising 45 works by Asst. Prof. Ali Kemal Çipe of the Faculty of Fine Arts, met with art enthusiasts at Istanbul Gelisim Art Gallery. The exhibition opening was attended by Faculty of Fine Arts Dean Prof. Şükran Güzin Ilıcak Aydınalp, Research Center for Art and Design Director Asst. Prof. Mustafa Günay, and numerous faculty members and students. The opening, which drew considerable interest, demonstrated the sustainability of art production and cultural activities within the university.
Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Software Engineering Department senior students achieved another significant success at TEKNOFEST 2025 with AgroSense, a farmer assistant supported by artificial intelligence (FilizAI). The team, which reached the finals in the Agricultural Technologies category, was awarded the Prestige Award under the "Starred Topics" designation.
Istanbul Gelisim University, Research Center for Sustainable Environment and Society Director Assoc. Prof. Başak Özarslan was a speaker at the Technovation Girls Launch Event hosted by SabancıDx. In her address, Assoc. Prof. Özarslan drew attention to the strong and strategic relationship between sustainability, energy transformation, and the economy of the future.
With the start of Ramadan, the effects of prolonged fasting and altered meal patterns on the body have once again come to the forefront. It is emphasized that maintaining metabolic balance during fasting, sustaining energy throughout the day, and ensuring weight control require a consciously structured nutrition plan. Istanbul Gelisim University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Chair Assoc. Prof. Hatice Merve Bayram provided assessments on the fundamental principles of healthy eating during Ramadan. Noting that prolonged fasting, changes in meal timing, and restricted fluid intake require careful planning, Assoc. Prof. Bayram stated, “During Ramadan, prolonged fasting, changes in meal patterns, and restricted fluid intake necessitate carefully structured nutrition planning. In this period, conscious planning of suhur and iftar meals is of great importance to both preserve metabolic balance and sustain energy throughout the day.”
Small and Medium Industry Development Organization of Türkiye (KOSGEB) İkitelli Director Duygu Yücesoy Manyaslı and KOSGEB Process Consultant Nedim Kara visited Istanbul Gelisim University Technology Center (TEKMER). During the visit, the work carried out by TEKMER and its contributions to the entrepreneurship ecosystem were discussed. As part of the visit, information was provided on TEKMER's R&D and project development processes, while the delegation also paid a courtesy visit to Istanbul Gelisim University Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin at his office. The meeting evaluated potential collaborative initiatives in university-industry cooperation and entrepreneurship.
Culinary Forum 2026, bringing together leading professionals, academics, chefs, and students from the gastronomy and food and beverage sector, was held on February 17-18, 2026, at the Nirvana Cosmopolitan Hotel. Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), represented by its strong academic staff at this internationally attended forum, comprehensively addressed the current dynamics of the gastronomy world through panels, workshops, tasting sessions, and networking areas. At the event, where academic perspective and industry experience came together on the same platform, Istanbul Gelisim University Secretary General and Gastronomy Departments Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Serdar Egeli moderated the session titled "The 'Less is More' Revolution on the Plate: Minimal Presentation, Maximum Flavor, and the New Generation's Approach to Balance."
As part of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TUBITAK) Science Talks program, the event titled "Ways to Stay Safe in the Digital World," organized in collaboration by Istanbul Gelisim University's Cybersecurity Application and Research Center (IGU SGUAM) and Bilim Zeytinburnu, was held on February 14, 2026, at the Zeytinburnu Culture and Arts Center to a large audience. As part of the program, Istanbul Gelisim University Department of Cybersecurity Chair Assoc. Prof. Serkan Gönen came together with participants and delivered a comprehensive presentation.
The ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accreditation of Istanbul Gelisim University's (IGU) Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (FEA) has been extended through September 30, 2031. Following a comprehensive evaluation process conducted by the ABET Committee, an independent, US-based non-governmental organization, the engineering programs within the faculty have once again been certified as meeting international quality standards. In celebration of receiving accreditation for the second consecutive time, an appreciation certificate presentation ceremony was held for the academics of Istanbul Gelisim University's Faculty of Engineering and Architecture.
