TEKNOFEST, Turkey's largest aviation, space and technology festival, brought together technology enthusiasts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus this year. Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) also took an active role in the festival with its academic staff and students. On behalf of Istanbul Gelisim University, Vice Rector Prof. Arda Öztürkcan, Technology Transfer Office Director Yahya Kemal Kıran and TTO assistant student Yusuf Enes Gültekin attended. The delegation examined the projects developed in 6 main and 13 subcategories ranging from primary school to university level and observed that the festival, which was held for the first time in the TRNC, was very productive and successful in terms of the interest of the participants.

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) has left behind an important first in line with its internationalization goals. The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), which was organized for the first time within the scope of Erasmus+ between April 28 -May 2, 2025, was held with the participation of 32 students from six different countries of Europe.

According to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office's "Innovation Map of Universities" report for 2025, Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) stood out as Türkiye's innovation leader with its 125 patent applications in 2024. Another remarkable element in the 2024 data of Istanbul Gelisim University was the high representation of female inventors in patent applications. It was noted that 115of the 125 applications made during the year included at least one female inventor. This rate of 92% is well above the general average of 66% in Türkiye.

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) is organizing a Blended Intensive Program (BIP) for the first time within the scope of Erasmus+, taking an important step in line with its internationalization goals. A total of 32 students from Poland, Portugal, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia and Lithuania will participate in the program, which will be held from April 28 to May 2, 2025.

Emphasizing the importance of psychological preparedness against disasters after the earthquake in the Marmara region, Istanbul Gelisim University Psychology Department Head Asst. Prof. Bülent Tansel shared applicable recommendations for both adults and children. Although the earthquake that occurred in Istanbul on April 23 and was felt throughout the city did not cause physical destruction, it brought the fear of earthquakesback to the agenda in the society. Stating that the psychological effects of such disasters should not be ignored, especially for children and individuals with high levels of anxiety, Asst. Prof. Bülent Tansel explained psychological support methods.

Halil Durna U23 and Elite Seniors Muaythai Türkiye Championship organized by the Turkish Muaythai Federation was held between 11-16 April 2025 at Antalya Gymnasium. Kübra Kocakuş, an athlete of Istanbul Gelisim University Sports Club, won the title of Turkish Champion with her impressive performance in the Elite Women's A Class 60 kg category by adding a new one to the Muaythai achievements, also known as Thai Boxing, which is a fighting sport, in the championship attended by many athletes from all over Türkiye.

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) was entitled to be supported within the scope of the 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program carried out by the TUBITAK Scientist Support Programs Presidency (BİDEB) with 54 projects developed by undergraduate and associate degree students. IGU, one of the foundation universities that applied to TUBITAK with a total of 150 project applications, achieved a remarkable success with an acceptance rate of 36%. With 54 projects that qualify for funding, Istanbul Gelisim University entered the top 10 among foundation universities in Türkiye and once again revealed its claim in the field of research and development.

According to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office's "Innovation Map of Universities" report for 2025, Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) was the university with the highest number of applications in Türkiye with 932 patent applications between 2010-2024. In 2024, it reached the top once again with 125 applications, reinforcing Türkiye's position as an innovation leader.

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Art and Design Application and Research Center (SATMER) held the opening of the painting exhibition titled "İki Zaman- Tek An". In the exhibition, the works of İsmet Yedikardeş, one of the important representatives of Turkish painting and ceramic art, met with art lovers. The exhibition was curated by SATMER Director Asst. Prof. Mustafa GÜNAY. IGU Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin, Vice Rector Prof. Necmettin Maraşlı and many different NGO directors also participated. The opening speech was given by Prof. Şahin. Prof. Şahin emphasized the place of art in the university vision.
