Strategic Visit from Canada to Istanbul Gelisim University: Steps Towards International Cooperation with UFV

The 46th Vision Meeting of Final Education Institutions was held at the Antalya Adalya Elite Hotel with also the participation of Istanbul Gelisim University. Organized under the theme “Sustainable Success in Education,” the meeting aimed to establish a shared roadmap aligned with strategies for ensuring continuous educational quality, strengthening institutional vision, and addressing current developments in the field of education. Founders and school principals from Final Education Institutions across Türkiye attended the meeting. Senior leadership and protocol representatives included İbrahim Taşel, Chair of the Board of Final Education Institutions; Şevket Ertem, General Director of Final Education Institutions; İhsan Özen, Chair of the Founders Board; and Abdülkadir Gayretli, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Istanbul Gelisim University.

Within the scope of the 2025 call for 2209-A/B University Students Research Projects Support Program by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK), a total of 263 project applications were submitted by students of Istanbul Gelisim University. The program, which aims to encourage the active participation of undergraduate and associate degree students in scientific research processes, once again highlighted our students’ strong interest in and productivity toward research culture this year.

The Technology Transfer Office (IGU TTO) of Istanbul Gelisim University participated in the conference titled “The Present and Future of Energy Security in the World and in Türkiye: Risks and Solutions in Critical Minerals,” organized by the Istanbul International Center for Energy and Climate (IICEC) of Sabancı University and held at Sabancı Center. Bringing together global leaders of the energy sector, the conference offered a multidimensional evaluation of the future of energy security and the strategic role of critical minerals.

QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), one of the world’s most prestigious higher education ranking organizations, has released the highly anticipated World University Rankings: Europe 2026. Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), recognized for its academic performance and global vision, secured its place among the top 500 universities in Europe, reaffirming its academic excellence. According to the latest results, IGU maintained its position as the 4th among foundation universities in Türkiye, while ranking 6th in Europe in the “Citations per Paper” category, which measures the impact of scientific research. The university achieved the 1st place in Türkiye, both overall and among foundation universities, in this category, i.e., citations per paper, marking a remarkable success.

Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Can Koç, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Sport Sciences at Istanbul Gelisim University, paid an official visit to China upon the invitation of Prof. Hüseyin Gümüş, Education Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Beijing. As part of the visit, Assoc. Prof. Koç attended the 5th Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and the Culture and Friendship Reception for Diplomats, and initiated cooperation talks with three different universities. Throughout the visit, he engaged in significant meetings aimed at strengthening Istanbul Gelisim University’s international academic collaborations.

At the Karate One-Premier League Istanbul tournament, one of the most prestigious karate events worldwide, Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) student Nuri Kılıç achieved a significant success. Competing among the world’s top 32 athletes, Nuri Kılıç, a student in the Exercise and Sport Sciences Program at the IGU Faculty of Sport Sciences, stepped onto the tatami in the Senior -60 kg Kumite category and won the silver medal with an outstanding performance.

Istanbul Gelisim University organized a comprehensive 32-hour EU Funds and Project Cycle Management (PCM) Training Program between 20-23 January 2026 to enhance the national and international project development competencies of its academic and administrative staff. Conducted with the participation of 25 attendees, the training program was structured around Project Cycle Management (PCM) and the Logical Framework Approach, both widely used in European Union funding systems.

Once thought to be a disease of the past, tuberculosis (TB) is back on the agenda today with rising case numbers. Commenting on the issue, Assoc. Prof. Nurten Elkin, a Public Health Specialist and Faculty Member at Istanbul Gelisim University, Faculty of Health Sciences, stated: “When tuberculosis is mentioned, most of us think of sanatoriums and diseases that belong to the past. However, the reality is that tuberculosis has neither disappeared nor lost its impact.”

As part of its internationalization vision, a delegation from Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) paid a visit to the Embassy of Nigeria in Ankara and held a meeting with the Nigerian Ambassador to Ankara, Zayyad Abdussalam. Representing the IGU delegation were Chairman of the Board of Trustees Abdülkadir Gayretli, Member of the Board of Trustees Ahmet Gayretli, International Student Director Umedjon Haitmurodov, and Gökkuşağı College Student Admissions Officer Ali Hegab.

Students of Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) successfully represented their university at the national level by achieving remarkable results in various disciplines across both men’s and women’s categories at the Wushu Turkey Championship. IGU athletes who reached the podium in Wushu Sanda, Taichi Quan, and Taijijian Quan not only showcased their individual performances but also demonstrated the university’s strength in the field of sports.
