THE Asia 2026 Results Announced: Istanbul Gelisim University in the Top 5 for Research Quality and International Outlook


The 2026 regional university ranking results compiled by Times Higher Education (THE), which evaluates higher education institutions on a global scale, have been announced. In an assessment based on multidimensional performance indicators, including teaching, research, citation impact, international outlook, and industry income, Istanbul Gelisim University placed in the 501-600 band worldwide. The university rose to 30th place in Türkiye and 11th among foundation universities, consolidating its position at both the national and international level. The published data reflected IGU's steady progress within the global higher education system.


Top 5 among Foundation Universities in Research Quality and International Outlook

In subject-area assessments, Istanbul Gelisim University was seen to stand out particularly in research and internationalization indicators, placing 5th among foundation universities in both research quality and international outlook.
 
These indicators fall among the key criteria covering the impact level of scientific publications, citation performance, international academic collaborations, and the proportions of international students and academic staff.

Istanbul Gelisim University Rector Prof. Dr. Bahri Şahin offered an assessment of the announced results. Noting that the results reflect the university's academic output capacity and strength of international engagement, Prof. Şahin made the following statement:
 
“THE rankings offer a comprehensive framework in which universities are evaluated not only on quantitative but also on qualitative academic outputs. The results we have achieved in research quality and international outlook show that the knowledge we produce is becoming more visible and impactful within international academic networks. In the period ahead, we aim to strengthen our research-focused approach and further diversify our international collaborations.”
